Bell Nexxia to Build Gig-Ethernet WAN

TORONTO -- Bell Nexxia, a leader in providing innovativecommunications solutions to businesses, today announced the delivery ofNortel Networks' optical Ethernet solution to INTRIA-HP for theCanadianImperial Bank of Commerce's (CIBC) corporate IP network. This is thefirstglobal enterprise deployment of a commercial, carrier class GigabitEthernetsolution based on interWAN technology. Initially, Bell Nexxia isdeployingthe optical Ethernet solution for INTRIA-HP and CIBC which has alreadybeenimplemented in Toronto, with coast-to-coast deployment planned within ayear.

The implementation of the optical Ethernet solution will provide CIBC'snetwork with the capability to support high-bandwidth applications withadditional quality of service (QoS) functionality and a morecost-effectiveapproach to deliver these applications. Some possible future servicesthatthis technology could deliver include: broadcast-quality video streamingandvideo conferencing to the desktop, real-time radio broadcasts to thedesktop, and IP telephony. CIBC's ability to deploy enterprise-wideapplications will be limitless with the increased capacity availablethroughthe network infrastructure.

This breakthrough deployment of Nortel Networks' optical Ethernetsolutionis the result of an existing partnership between INTRIA-HP and BellNexxiato design and implement a single, cohesive corporate IP network forCIBC'sConnected Enterprise program. The Connected Enterprise program supportsCIBC's movement into the digital economy by providing a globalmission-critical infrastructure in which information can be shared in atimely and reliable manner among employees, customers and suppliers.

Bell Nexxia's delivery of this leading-edge optical Ethernet solution toINTRIA-HP is part of the $75 million, multi-year agreement announced inlate1999.
